6月27日，两名知情人士向路透社表示，本周五（6月29日）格里尼治标准时间10：30，宝马将在慕尼黑总部召开新闻发布会，宝马CEO诺伯特·雷瑟夫将诠释合作新理念，丰田CEO丰田章男也将出席会议；届时双方将联合发布声明，宣布将技术合作范围从之前的柴油发动机和电池拓展至混合动力车以及车辆轻量化。不过目前尚无已经起草的现成协议等待双方签订。

一名知情人士表示：“我可以打赌很快将有宝马车辆搭载丰田的混合动力总成。”而宝马和丰田目前均对报道中的媒体发布会拒绝评论。

丰田也将从此次拓展中受惠，尤其是在碳纤维材料和汽车轻量化技术方面。宝马已经增持碳纤维供应商西格里（SGL）股份，并与其建立合资子公司。宝马计划将碳纤维轻质材料大批量生产后投入产业化规模应用，主要用于Megacity电动车，也就是去年亮相的宝马i3。

另有消息人士向《欧洲汽车新闻》披露，宝马还将同丰田在燃料电池领域展开合作，而此前宝马的合作谈判对象为通用汽车。

双方结盟始末

2011年12月1日，丰田汽车和宝马公司在东京车展上共同签署备忘录，双方正式建立中长期合作关系，共同开发下一代环保汽车技术。

宝马CEO诺伯特·雷瑟夫和丰田欧洲CEO勒罗伊各自代表公司签署了协议。根据框架协议，丰田和宝马各取对方之长，丰田希望借助宝马柴油发动机技术提振欧洲销售，而宝马则希望借助丰田的锂离子电池等混合动力技术降低生产成本。雷瑟夫称：“丰田在环保型汽车技术方面处于领先地位，而宝马则是最具有创新力和持久力的豪华车制造商。”

从2014年开始，宝马将向丰田欧洲市场车型提供1.6升与2.0升的柴油发动机；而双方首要合作项目为研发应用于新一代电动汽车的锂离子电池，研发成本将由两公司在合作框架下分担。

之前由于丰田缺少柴油发动机，在欧洲市场一直较为惨淡，原因在于欧洲区域尤其注重碳排放，而柴油燃油相对产生二氧化碳较少。丰田表示，该协议将帮助公司扩大欧洲市场产品阵容；目前无计划持有宝马股权，未来若有需要将会考虑持该建议。
